"Simple" tips for novices - these are things I had to search the web and forums to figure out how to do, YMMV.
#1   -   When you install any SL5500 software on your SL-C700 the software runs in portrait mode (i.e. sideways) by default and won't rotate, which makes it difficult to use the keyboard. See how to change this here.
#2   -   You don't see a Cntrl key on the SL-C700 keyboard. You can generate control keys by pressing Fn + Shift + the appropriate key. However, Cntrl-Z/X/V/C only require Fn + key
#3   -   Perhaps obvious to folks familiar with Linux, but for folks new to it (like myself), here are where some of the files reside:
/home/usr/lib/ipkg/info   contains .list files for all the ipk packages you install.
/home/QtPalmtop/bin contains the executable files.
/home/QtPalmtop/pics has subdirectories for each application, that contain the application icon files in png format.
/home/root/Applications has subdirectories for applications, that contain their data files e.g. for iqnotes /home/root/Applications/iqnotes contains the .xml datafiles for the application.
/mnt/cf is the directory for the compact flash card. If you install applications on the compact flash card then the SL-C700 creates a QtPalmtop directory on the card.
/mnt/card is the directory for the SD card. If you install applications on the SD card then the SL-C700 creates a QtPalmtop directory on the SD card.
#4   -   To add additional pages to the desktop you can download and use Tab Manager.
#5   -   The CL-C700 keyboard doesn't have keys for the curly brackets - { and } . You can get them as follows: Left curly bracket { = Fn+Shift+Comma, and right curly bracket } = Fn+Shift+Period
#7   -   A few more key combinations: Fn + Up arrow gives you Page Up, while Fn + Down arrow gives you Page Down. Fn + Left arrow and Fn + Right Arrow give you Home and End respectively.
#10   -   Most programs for the Zaurus seem to want to get installed on RAM and won't go on the SD or CF cards. Go here for a set of instructions that are supposed to set it up so that installs go automatically to the SD card 'thinking' they are being installed in RAM. This was written for the SL-5500... Note: I tried this twice.. the first time my SL-C700 hung completely on a reboot after completing the instructions and stuck at the Sharp screen, requiring a hard reboot. The second time everything appeared to complete OK but a number of programs stopped working, so I did another hard reset. Please do a complete backup before trying this.
#11   -   To perfom a full reset and restore the SL-C700 to factory-state, unlock the battery compartment for 5 seconds and keep the "OK" button pressed when powering up. You will come to a menu in Japanese, choose the third (format) option. Then pick the Y option. Note that you need to have your SL-C700 plugged in when you do this (otherwise when you pick the 3rd option it go to a screen in Japanese & when you pick OK it jumps back to the Japanese menu. You could stay in this loop forever - presumably the Japanese on the OK screen is instructing you to plug your Zaurus into main power!) You'll sit at the "SHARP screen" for approximately 60-70 seconds, then at the "CG Silicon screen" for approximately 95 seconds, then you get to a screen that has the word Zaurus + 2 lines of Japanese. Tapping anywhere on the screen gets you to a screen with the Qtopia Q and a crosshair. Tap on the crosshair, on all four corners and at the center of the screen. Tap OK when the date/time screen comes up, then OK at the next screen. You end up at the main menu. If you do this on a Dynamism SL-C700 you loose all the English modifications and end up with a Japanese SL-C700. However if you then do a restore from a backup you'll be back in business with an English language SL-C700 again. (Since you'll have to do a restore while it is still in Japanese you should familiarize yourself with the restore process i.e. in Settings pick the program icon that has the two arrows, then the second radio button - for restore - and the first or second of the lower radio buttons for restoration from CF or SD respectively.)
#12   -   When using the Terminal app (and presumably the Embedded Konsole, though I can't tell because it is 'broken' at this time) you can scroll back (and then forward) through your command history using the jog switch on the 'back' of the SL-C700.
#13   -   You can also scroll back through previous commands using the SL-C700's Up arrow and then forward using the Down arrow.
#14   -   Once in a while when you uninstall a piece of software you end up with the icon still there, now changed to a question mark. To get rid of this you can delete the app.desktop file in the /home/QtPalmtop/apps/xxx directory (where app is the application name e.g. PortaBase, and xxx is the name of the tab in which the icon appears e.g. Jeode, Settings, Applications, etc.) The next time you reboot the icon will disappear.
#15   -   The following is a list of some programs that work OK from the CF in the SL-C700 (as opposed to in internal flash): Project Professional, GetDone!, Opie-Reader, JCryptPad, Fish, Spoken, tkcCard, tkcCalendar, and tkcContacts.
#16   -   For information on the files created/involved when setting up a network connection for Dialup PPP go here.
#17   -   You've just installed a program and you want to know what files have been installed on your Z and where... Look at the xxx.list file in the /usr/lib/ipkg/info subdirectory for the info (where xxx is the app name e.g. kismet, iqnotes, etc.)
#18   -   You've just installed a program but for some reason there appears to be no help text. This happened to me for a number of applications, such as IQNotes, StageOne, SafeDee, etc. I moved the html help files from the subdirectory where they were put when I installed the ipk i.e. /home/QtPalmtop/help/html to the /home/QtPalmtop/help/en/html subdirectory, and lo and behold, I had my help!
